Manny starring Suh Ji Suk and Choi Jung Yoon
This heartwarming family drama puts a modern spin to the old Korean values of mothers staying at home and taking care of children. Suh Ji Suk (Gloria, OB-GYN) stars as manny Kim Yi Han, a Korean-American who has a special gift with kids. Choi Jung Yoon (Smile You) is the harried mother Seo Do Young, and Byun Jung Soo (Pasta) is her former supermodel sister Janice. Jung Da Bin and Goo Seung Hyun complete the cast as the children Oh Eun Bi and Oh Jung Min.
Manny, a new word of the 21st century, is a combination of Man and Nanny. Unlike many American moms, "Manny" is a new and unfamiliar concept for Koreans. Many parents in Korea would refuse to hire a Manny because of their assumption that women would be better at house chores and taking care of babies. Their beliefs that most of child molestation is done by men, and men who try to be nannies are weird, make it harder for them to accept nannies.
This drama follows a mom of two kids and an unmarried Manny. It comically depicts the Manny becoming part of the family, and moreover, trusting and loving the mom, through conflicts and everyday episodes. This parallels the freedom and energy of Korean single moms and the change in their awareness.
