John Willoughby's Confession - Sense and Sensibility Video
This was made to enter the Jane Austen vidder contest, second round, bad-to-good-guys. Character: Willoughby, from Sense and Sensibility 1995 Music: World on Fire, Trading yesterday. program used: Ulead VS ...Wow! This was by far the toughest vid I ever created. So: I tried to capture Willoughby's character through his infamous romance with Marianne. The world made him a wicked fellow but Marianne's grace and lovely person could touch him. His tragedy lies in the constant struggle between affection and money, and the latter eventually prevailed upon his feelings for Marianne. This video focuses on the dashing gentlemen's misfortunes and his final unhappiness. ** Willoughby, in the book, is not an utter bad guy. Therefore I felt turning him into a good guy didn't require a new story line. I stuck with JA's plot, for the most. it starts with Willoughby seeing Marianne's wedding. he then remembers how he seduced her before being seduced himself by Marianne's innocence. What redeems him, in the book and in the vid, is the confession he made to Elinor. I used quotes from the book, from his confession to Elinor and from Brandon's point of view. [S&S, chp.44]
