According to Nungesser BP offered no explanation as to why Dudley didn't show but in Plaquemine Parish they are quite used to being let down by BP. From the beginning BP denied that oil would hit any part of the parish and Nungesser says this denial continued even when the Barrier Islands and then the marshes were contaminated.
