I've watched the film over and over again, and every single time it strikes me how utterly fantastic these characters are. I absolutley love the interactions between the Stranger and Frankie, Frankie and his mum and of course between Lizzie and the Stranger. Very little is spoken, but so much more is being said wordlessly - especially when it comes to Frankie. The non-verbal communication, all the expressions, the looks, the postures, the smiles, the sighs, the frowns perfectly portray the inner turmoils of the three of them, their insecurities, their fears, their hesitation, their hopes, dreams and feelings for one another. Both Gerry and Emily, and of course little Jack did an amazing job and created something unique and very, very touching. So when I listened to this song the other day, I instantly knew that it fitted them perfectly. It's one of my all-time favourites, 'When You Say Nothing At All' by Ronan Keating. Lyrics below, as usual.:) The idea of their thoughts, and occasionally their actual words, being put on display naturally came from the music video of the song (from the film 'Notting Hill'). :) As you will notice, their thoughts are written in different handwriting - I don't think I need to elaborate on who's is which, it's pretty obvious. :) I just love to imagine what goes on in their minds throughout the film, during all those long and heavy silences...And what feelings they keep masked, especially the Stranger.
