Vacation, sometimes referred as National Lampoon's Vacation, is a 1983 comedy film directed by Harold Ramis and starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid, Dana Barron and Anthony Michael Hall. The film features numerous others, such as comedians John Candy and Imogene Coca, model Christie Brinkley, and Jane Krakowski, in smaller roles. The screenplay was written by John Hughes, based on his short story in National Lampoon Magazine, Vacation '58 (the screenplay changes the year to 1983). Research found that 47 percent of the 2,010 people that were polled admitted to missing their pets most of all, with family members and partners as the second and third runners up. 13 percent said they would prefer traveling with their pet than their partner. TravelSupermarket says 39 percent of people are choosing to take their pets with them when they travel, and 73 percent of those who took their pets with them on vacation thought that the animal enjoyed the trip. It is estimated that there are hundreds of millions of dogs and cats in the world. As the family unit size has generally decreased over time around the world, more people rely on pets for comfort and support.
