Based on a famous tale of Korean folklore, the drama tells the story of Princess Nak Rang of the Nangnang Kingdom and Prince Hodong of the Goguryeo Kingdom. It gives a twist to the legendary story by focusing on Nak Rang's older sister, Ja Myung Go, imagining her as the literal representation of the Ja Myung Go, a magical drum which sounds on its own when enemies invade. Two princesses, half-sisters, are born on the same day in the Kingdom of Nangnang. An oracle foretells that one princess will become the nation's savior while the other will destroy it. The mother of one princess, Princess Nak Rang (also known as Ra Hee), successfully sets up her daughter as the savior princess, labeling the other, Princess Ja Myung, as the destroyer princess. Ja Myung's mother barely saves her from being killed, smuggling her out to a remote country province where she grows up with no knowledge of her true identity. One day, she accidentally meets Prince Hodong of the rival state of Goguryeo, and falls in love. Learning of her true identity, she returns to her kingdom, sparking an intense struggle for power with her half-sister Nak Rang. Nak Rang, also in love with Prince Hodong, destroys the Ja Myung drum for his sake, intending to let him take over Nangnang with his rival army. Ja Myung however leads the Nangnang army into battle, winning many battles. When Nak Rang marries Prince Hodong, however, Ja Myung may not be able to keep control of both her heart and her country...
