Shion is offered a place to stay by an old friend of his mother, but refuses. Inukashi blames Shion for Rat becoming soft, which leads to a confrontation. Shion makes a decision, one that could greatly affect his life, as well as Rat's.

After a daring escape from No. 6, Shion learns that he has become infected. After analyzing the specimen, Shion comes to a horrible realization, one that threatens to destroy his former home, and rip his friendship with Rat at the seams.
