The film tells the story of the lengths to which two Secret Service agents go to arrest a counterfeiter. Richard Chance and Jimmy Hart are United States Secret Service agents with the Treasury Department, assigned as counterfeiting investigators in its Los Angeles field office. They help guard President Ronald Reagan (heard off-camera, giving a speech, but not actually seen) while he is in L.A., and together foil a terrorist bombing assassination attempt against the President. Chance has a reputation in the department for reckless behavior, including bungee jumping (then relatively unknown), and we find out that Hart is three days away from retirement.
