Its one of few films to take a look into the life of a German hero. STORY: Racing through the skies during World War One - the German fighter pilot known as The Red Baron. Now the life of the flying ace, whose real name was Manfred von Richthofen, has been turned into a film which was premiered in Berlin. Von Richthofen is a legend in Germany and beyond - and he achieved at least 80 aerial warfare victories when he served as a German pilot at the age of 25. In 1916, he became a member of the new fighter squadron - where his talent was quickly spotted by superiors, who then got him to train other young pilots. Von Richthofen is played by up and coming German actor Matthias Schweighoefer. He says there shouldn't just be films made about the dark moments of German history: [Matthias Schweighoefer, Main Actor]; "I think stories about German heroes have a place in the cinema\ again, and they should return to the cinema, because we not only had a terrible past but we also had heroes. I certainly think it's worthwhile to turn their stories into movies."
