The Paradise Motel are an independent Australian rock band originally formed in Hobart, Tasmania in 1994. They relocated to Melbourne and issued two albums on Mushroom Records, Still Life and Flight Paths before moving to the United Kingdom where they disbanded in 2000. The group reformed in 2008 in Melbourne and issued further albums, Australian Ghost Story and I Still Hear Your Voice at... albuquerque's mayor anthe "safe city strike force" are on a mission to makeover route 66. and today they're one step closer. sharon erickson joins us live along central near louisiana ... where another route 66 eyesore is being demolished. sharon?? antoinette... the city says it wants to clean up the historic stretch of road. just a few hours ago ... demolition started on this old motel that's been empty, and attracting crime, for years. bulldozers are making quick work of the abandoned "state fair mercado motel and apartment" building on central avenue. mayor richard berry was here today as the long-time eyesore was torn down... he says, hopefully to make way for a new, thriving business. and it's not the first, or the last, on a long list of dilapidated buildings the city wants get rid of as part of its revitalization of historic "route 66." the "silver moon lodge"... minute thumbnail 12:01 pm just blocks away down central avenue ... was demolished two weeks ago. the owner says he plans to build a grocery store, about 20 apartments and retail space in the now empty lot. that's the kind of business mayor berry says he looks forward to seeing in the downtown area. i "i think central avenue is just one of these really special places, and it's good to see these problem properties coming down and get some new development going on on this great stretch of road." the city is still deciding what to do with one of the biggest eyesores on central avenue-- the anasazi building. but for now... tearing down this old abandoned hotel is a step in the right direction. live at central near san mateo. sharon erickson. kob eyewitness news 4
