He appeared in many more television shows and dramas before getting a role in BBC Three's Burn It, playing Mike. In 2003 Laing played the role of Jack Hewit, the lover of Tom Hollander's Guy Burgess and Samuel West's Anthony Blunt, in the critically acclaimed BBC miniseries Cambridge Spies.
