Stelio Savante (born April 24, 1970 in Cape Town, South Africa) is a South African actor, producer, and writer living in the United States. He is a native English speaker (Anglo South African) and fluent in Afrikaans and Greek. In 2007 he became the first male South African born SAG award nominee. For his recurring role on Ugly Betty. Stelio was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and is of South African, Greek, British, and Jewish Lithuanian descent. He graduated from Camps Bay High School in 1988. In late 1989 he relocated from South Africa to the United States when he was offered an international tennis scholarship by the University of West Alabama. He represented their tennis and football teams and was also recognized by the Alpha Psi Omega honor society for his participation in collegiate theatre. After performing in regional and community theater in Alabama and Mississippi, he relocated to New York in 1992 to pursue an acting career.
Savante spent his first few years in New York, studying his craft with Deborah Kampmeier at Michael Howard Studios and was later invited to study with Robert Modica of the Neighborhood Playhouse LESS
