Steve Guttenberg was unable to star in this film, due to scheduling conflicts with filming Three Men and a Baby. Instead, the filmmakers decided to cast Matt McCoy as a new character. Captain Harris finally finds the goods he needs to push Commandant Eric Lassard out at the Police Academy: he is one year late for mandatory retirement.
