Set in Atlanta, Georgia, Paper Boys follows 8 members of a door-to-door newspaper sales team. The nickname for the team is "The Wrecking Crew". For a length of time, the title of the film was "Boys of the Wrecking Crew". Sean Sanders (played by Louis Lavdas) is the troubled member of the group. Steve (played by David Hall), Sean's best friend since childhood, lives a life of privilege and opportunity. Ray (played by Chris Whitley) is the leader of the crew.
