Stone's films often use many different cameras and film formats, including VHS, 8 mm film, and 70 mm film. Stone was born in New York City, the son of Jacqueline (née Goddet) and Louis Stone, a stockbroker. He grew up affluently and lived in townhouses in Manhattan and Stamford, Connecticut.
