Sir Nigel Barnard Hawthorne, CBE (5 April 1929 – 26 December 2001) was an English actor, perhaps best remembered for his role as Sir Humphrey Appleby, the Permanent Secretary in the 1980s sitcom Yes Minister and the Cabinet Secretary in its sequel, Yes, Prime Minister. For this role he won four BAFTA Awards during the 1980s in the 'Best Light Entertainment Performance' Category. In the 1990s he won two more BAFTAs, one as Best TV Actor for The Fragile Heart, and one as Best Film Actor for The Madness of King George. Like everybody else, Blake Pellerin (William Hurt) has a past. Unlike everybody else, he's running for the Governor of Missouri, so his past is under intense scrutiny as he rushes from one appearance to the next. Blake handles it well, trading barbs with his opponent, while managing to maintain a strained relationship with his wife. When a reporter begins asking questions about Blake's political mentor, Kim Mennaker (Hawthorne), Blake starts to get a little nervous. A strange note left in his room leads Blake to a meeting where he finds Mennaker intending to blackmail him with incriminating photos. Now Blake finds that there's no one he can trust as his campaign and life unravel.
