Metro's Her Reckoning was test-marketed in some cities under the title Tables Turned. Emmy Wehlan stars as college coed Ethel Stratton, the prettiest girl on campus. Though Ethel is courted by practically every male student in the institution, it is Howard Sherbrooke (J. Frank Glendon) who wins her hand in marriage. Before the ceremony can proceed, however, Howard discovers that his father has arranged for him to marry millionaire's daughter Beatrice Ford (Jeanette Horton). Unwilling to give up Ethel, Howard plans to keep her as a mistress by arranging a phony marriage. To this end, he enlists the aid of his best friend Dick Leslie (Leslie Austin). But Dick, who has long been in love with Ethel and has resented Howard's intrusion, gets even by hiring a real minister, thereby legally splicing Ethel and Howard. Installing Ethel in a New York apartment, Howard, unaware that his marriage was genuine, engages the services of another friend, Stanley Grant (Walter Hitchcock), to keep Ethel occupied while he, Howard, goes through with his wedding to Beatrice. Eventually, Ethel finds out that she's been everybody's dupe, and barges into Howard's wedding, accusing him of bigamy. Howard thoughtfully removes himself from the scene by committing suicide, leaving Ethel free to marry her true love Dick.
