The Hikuhikule'o-'o-Pulotu Band in their recording of three ancient chants by playing the Moanan-Tongan nose-flutes (fangufangu) in Canberra on Sunday 05/09/10. The players were scholar and master artist Hufanga 'Okusitino Mahina, Scholar-Artist Siosiua Lafitani Tofua'ipangai and drummer Tofua'ipangai Lafitani Jnr. Hufanga first gave an introduction about the nose-flute, an anceint world surviving instrument which is preserved in Tahiti and the Kingdom of Tonga in the South Seas to awake and put into sleep His Majesty King Tupou V, and are worldwide played by only three Tongans, the late Prof Futa Helu of 'Atenisi University, Hufanga Prof 'Okusitino Mahina of the Vava'u Academy and Loau Research Society and Siosiua Lafitani Tofua'ipangai of the LRS, Phoenix Performing Arts of Moana, Nuama of Moana and Phoenix Tas-Moanan Consultancy for cultural and educational resaons. This ancient instrument is in extinction, and the Hikuhikule'o-'o-Pulotu would like to tour worldwide and share with people and artists, however Hufanga appealed to interested individual and organizations for financial donations to help making this dream a reality. Fangufangu is played with the nose instead. For further information please contact Siosiua Lafitani on firstname.lastname@example.org
