Matthew Gray Gubler (born March 9, 1980) is an American actor, film director, painter, photographer, editor, and former fashion model. He is best known for his role as the young genius Dr. Spencer Reid in the CBS television show Criminal Minds, of which he has also directed three episodes. Gubler has also appeared in (500) Days of Summer as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's friend Paul. Gubler directed and created several movies that were mostly filmed in his hometown of Las Vegas as well as New York City, prior to his graduation from NYU. Gubler is a high school graduate of the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, where he majored in acting, because the school did not offer his first love, film making. He is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in film directing. He also attended UC Santa Cruz.
