Carnivine is famous for being one of the Pokᅢᄅmon revealed before the Japanese release of ''Pokᅢᄅmon Diamond'' and ''Pearl''. The purpose of Carnivine in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokᅢᄅmon, is to battle both wild Pokᅢᄅmon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokᅢᄅmon owned by Pokᅢᄅmon trainer. Its name is derived from carnivore and vine. The Japanese name Muskippa comes from Dionaea muscipula, the scientific name for the Venus Flytrap. Carnivine resembles a flying flytrap. It may also be based on Petey Piranha or Cractus. It does not have any legs like other Grass Pokᅢᄅmon (such as Bellsprout) and instead has vines attached like tentacles to the end of the stem. Two large leaves fan out from its stem and they act as arms (rather than wings).
