Carnivine is famous for being one of the Pokￃﾩmon revealed before the Japanese release of ''Pokￃﾩmon Diamond'' and ''Pearl''. The purpose of Carnivine in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokￃﾩmon, is to battle both wild Pokￃﾩmon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokￃﾩmon owned by Pokￃﾩmon trainer. Its name is derived from carnivore and vine. The Japanese name Muskippa comes from Dionaea muscipula, the scientific name for the Venus Flytrap. Carnivine resembles a flying flytrap. It may also be based on Petey Piranha or Cractus. It does not have any legs like other Grass Pokￃﾩmon (such as Bellsprout) and instead has vines attached like tentacles to the end of the stem.
