It was an independent biopic and was partially funded by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, starring Joseph Fiennes. The film covers Luther's life from his becoming a monk in 1505 to the Diet of Augsburg in 1530. The film begins during a thunderstorm in 1505 as Luther is returning to his home.
