Cynthia Lauren Tewes ( /ˈtwiːs/; born October 26, 1953 in Braddock, Pennsylvania), known simply as Lauren Tewes, is an American actress best known for playing Cruise Director Julie McCoy on the sitcom The Love Boat beating out over 100 other actresses for the role. Tewes was replaced on the series by Pat Klous in 1984 after a highly public battle with cocaine abuse, although she did reprise her role as a guest in a 1985 episode as well as in a 1997 episode of the sitcom Martin and a 1998 episode of the revival series Love Boat: The Next Wave.

Raised in Whittier, California, Tewes attended Rio Hondo College. She also studied at the University of California at Riverside, California where she won the 1st Annual Chancellor's Award for Excellence in the Theatre. She made her stage debut in Arsenic and Old Lace at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre in California. Other plays include Born Yesterday and Crimes of the Heart which were performed during the early 1980s.
In 2000-2001, she had a recurring role on The Fugitive as a police detective.
