With his signature top hat, short mustache and a devilish smirk, Charlie Chaplin is one of the most recognizable faces from the early American silent film era. Born on April 16, 1889, in London to parents who were music hall performers, Chaplin is most well known for his role of “The Tramp” during the golden age of silent films, using mime slapstick and visual comedy like no one else could. He eventually wrote, produced and composed the music for all of his films, winning three Academy Awards.
