John Campbell McTiernan, Jr. (born January 8, 1951) is an American film director and producer, best known for his action films and most identifiable with the three films he directed back-to-back: Predator, Die Hard, and The Hunt for Red October, along with later movies such as Last Action Hero, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and The Thomas Crown Affair. McTiernan was born in Albany, New York and attended the Juilliard School before graduating with an M.F.A. from the AFI Conservatory. A French anthropologist (Pierce Brosnan) intends to settle peacefully in Los Angeles, but a mystical band of deadly evil spirits (lead by Adam Ant) -- the incarnation of nomads he once studied -- materialize to haunt him. When he is murdered, he passes the memories of his last days to an emergency room doctor (Lesley Anne-Down). She is then plunged into a freakish game of life and death as she becomes the next target of the unrelenting nomads.
