Forsythe was born in Macon, Missouri, the son of Mary Katherine (née Henderson) and Cecil Proctor Forsythe. He also appeared onstage in dramas such as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf by Edward Albee, and The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter.
