Hal Patrick Riney (17 July 1932 in Seattle, Washington - 24 March 2008 in San Francisco, California) was an American advertising executive. Founder of Publicis & Hal Riney, Riney was named #30 on the Advertising Age 100 people of the 20th century. He was inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame in 2001. Riney grew up in Longview, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1954. US Cellular is launching its latest spot in the Believe in Something Better campaign today. For the spot, Riney tapped avante-garde artist, Diem Chau, and her highly lauded Storytelling Crayons work. Using a range of Chau's carved Crayon people, the Riney team melted them down and then played it in reverse using in-camera special effects to demonstrate that, no matter what happens to your phone, your numbers (and connections) will stay just how you imagined them.
