Gavin Hood (born 12 May 1963) is a South African filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and actor, best known for writing and directing the Academy Award-winning Foreign Language Film Tsotsi (2005). He first came to the South African public's attention when he starred in the SABC TV production The Game, a drama series focusing on the game of rugby union. Hood got his start at directing when he was commissioned to make several short educational dramas for the South African Department of Health.
