Both films are based on the Fantastic Four comic book and were directed by Tim Story. While the film was the highest-grossing film during the week that immediately followed its release on June 15, 2007 in North America and was the recipient of two out of fifteen awards nominations, it was received with unfavorable reviews by critics with critics noting an improvement on the first film, but continuing to criticize the film's flimsy direction and lack of humor.
