Desert Flower is a 2009 German biographical film directed by Sherry Horman. It stars Liya Kebede, Sally Hawkins and Craig Parkinson, and is based on the Somali-born model Waris Dirie's eponymous autobiography. Born into a nomadic pastoralist family, a teenage Waris Dirie (played by Kebede) flees an arranged marriage to a much older man. She crosses the desert alone before finally reaching the capital Mogadishu. Relatives soon send her to London to work in the Somali embassy. When faced with the threat of returning to Somalia, Waris finds herself homeless and illegal. She is then discovered... MORE
