He made 42 film and television appearances between the beginning of his career in 1976 to his sudden death in 2008. He is known for his roles in films such as Lifeguard, The Five Heartbeats, Under Siege and Superhero Movie and for his roles in television series such as The Incredible Hulk, Dynasty, Webster and Boston Legal. McKnight was born in Troy, New York as the third and youngest son of actor Alan McKnight and schoolteacher Lorraine Eddison, and the younger brother of anti-racism activist Louis Fitzgerald McKnight (born 1950) and joiner Warren Lester McKnight (born 1953). McKnight was educated at Catholic Central High School and later at Russell Sage College. After leaving high school in 1974 aged twenty, he moved to Albany, New York where he began his short-lived career as a photographer.
