David James McKnight (born 12 September 1954 Troy, New York-died 15 November 2008 Chicago, Illinois) was an American film and television actor. He made 42 film and television appearances between the beginning of his career in 1976 to his sudden death in 2008. McKnight was born in Troy, New York as the third and youngest son of actor Alan McKnight and schoolteacher Lorraine Eddison, and the younger brother of anti-racism activist Louis Fitzgerald McKnight (born 1950) and joiner Warren Lester McKnight (born 1953).
McKnight was educated at Catholic Central High School and later at Russell Sage College.
After leaving high school in 1974 aged twenty, he moved to Albany, New York where he began his short-lived career as a photographer.
However, in 1976, aged twenty-two, he moved back to Troy to begin his career as an actor.
