His father Lloyd encouraged him to become an actor after seeing him perform in the play, "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" at Rutherford High School in Panama City, Florida. He is married and has three children. He donates his time to various charitable organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is a professing Christian - Episcopalian. Hart recorded the song "Let it Snow" for the 1991 "In the Heat of the Night" Christmas CD "Christmas Time's A Comin'."
