Charlotte Riley (born 29 December 1981) is an English actress. She is best known for her role Sarah Hurst in Easy Virtue and as Catherine Earnshaw in ITV's adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
Riley comes from Grindon, Thorpe Thewles. She attended the private Teesside High School from age nine until eighteen. Charlotte is engaged to actor Tom Hardy. They met in 2009 when they were cast in the TV series The Take (based on the book by Martina Cole). They then went on to star together in Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. The pair announced their engagement in July 2010 after a year of dating. She currently lives in London.
In 2004, Riley won the Sunday Times' Playwriting Award for the play Shaking Cecilia, which she co-wrote with her university friend, and Durham Revue co-star, Tiffany Wood.
