Though it's likely that you've heard the work of Scott Millan, it's unlikely that you would recognize him on the street or be able to recall a specific example unless you're a hopeless audiophile. Since his earliest work in television (including the game show classic The Joker's Wild and a slew of made-for-TV films), Millan has been subtly enhancing the movie-going experiences of audiences everywhere, with Oscar-nominated work in such feature films as Schindler's List (1993), Braveheart (1995), and 1996 Best Sound Oscar-winner Apollo 13. A master of the Dolby Digital Surround Sound system, Millan again won the Best Sound Oscar (along with co-sound mixers Bob Beemer and Ken Weston) for his work in Gladiator (2000). Keep an eye out for the sword-throwing sequence in one of Gladiator's many battle scenes (that is, if you have a good home theater or by chance catch the film in a theater), one of Millan's favorite examples of the powerful use of sound in the film. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide less
