Noted television and feature-film producer Lauren Shuler-Donner got her start as a camera operator following studies at Boston University. She was the first female member of the Hollywood Electronic Camera Union and rose to become a television associate producer. In 1979, she produced her first television movie, Amateur Night at the Dixie Bar and Grill. In 1983, she produced the hit feature film Mr. Mom.
