Jules Cronjager was a founding member of one of the American movie industry's great technical dynasties; like the Westmores in the field of makeup, the Cronjagers were among the most visible names in movie photography in America for 80 years. Jules Cronjager was born in Germany in 1872. He had a talent in the new art of photography, which served him well in America. He joined the movie industry, working for producer Lewis J. Selznick, and quickly established himself in the 1910s as one of the top cameramen in America. He photographed many dozens of movies during the silent era and was busy into the early years of the talkies, mostly working for independent producers by then.
