John Woolf claimed to have learned all he knew about the movie business from his father, C.M. Woolf, and further asserted that there was never any other line of work for him. Moviemaking was in his blood, it would seem. He received his academic training at Eton College and Institut Montana in Switzerland. His efforts during WWII consisted of making Army films, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star by the United States government. In 1948, he and his brother, James Woolf, founded Romulus Films. All in all, films made by Woolf won 13 Academy Awards, including the classics The African Queen and Oliver!. In 1958, he created Anglia Television, which produced a very large amount of television plays and series, and in 1975, he was knighted by the Queen of England. ~ Ryan Shriver, Rovi LESS
