A pretty blonde nightclub performer, Doris Weston was awarded the leading female role opposite crooner Dick Powell in Warner Bros.' The Singing Marine (1938). The ad campaign for the film highlighted her beauty and singing ability, but audiences saw Weston as a poor replacement for Ruby Keeler and the studio quickly dropped her option. After having been the victim of Delinquent Parents (1938), Weston was Warren Hull's romantic interest in the Columbia serial Mandrake the Magician (1939) and Johnny Mack Brown's in Universal's Chip of the Flying U (1940). ~ Hans J.
