An opera baritone turned action movie hero, Kentucky-born Carl Gantvoort enjoyed a brief vogue on screen in Zane Grey adaptations produced in the early '20s by film pioneer Benjamin B. Hampton and co-starring Hampton's wife, Claire Adams. But characteristic of his former occupation, Gantvoort proved a bit too portly to be a believable action hero and he quickly returned to the more congenial atmosphere of ~the Boston Grand Opera.
