Bhavan's College is college located at Andheri, a suburb in Mumbai, India. It was established in 1946, a year before India gained independence from The British Empire in 1947. Upon India's independence, on 15th August 1947, the new Congress led government invited Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkarji to serve as the first law minister and he was appointed as Chairperson of the Constitution Drafting Committee, to write India's new constitution. In this Committee, Kulapati Dr. K.M. Munshiji, founding president of the college, worked as a close associate of Dr. Ambedkarji. Together they helped put together India's constitution and designed a strategy to better incorporate the under privileged members of Indian society when the need was felt. The constitutional framework for safeguarding the interests of the underprivileged sections of Indian society developed into a three pronged strategy: Protective Arrangement, Compensatory Discrimination and setting up national commission. Bhavan's College is a part of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The college is built upon 45 acres of land and has huge volleyball and basketball courts, as well as football pitches and a botanical garden. The Nature and Amateur Radio clubs are very popular. The college festivals are the Ray Film Festival and O2.
