In 2003 Asier filmed the lead role in the independent feature film Shem, playing a young Jewish student who searches all over Europe for the grave of his great grandfather who was killed by the Nazis in the war. In 2004 Asier was awarded the Best Actor award at the New York Independent Film Festival for his role in Shem, making him the youngest winner of this award, previously won by Oscar winner Rod Steiger and Guy Pearce. In 2006 Asier Newman filmed one of the lead roles in the psychological thriller Caotica Ana directed by the prolific Spanish director Julio Medem (The Lovers of the Arctic Circle, Sex and Lucia), LESS
