Alexander Henry Fenwick Armstrong (born 2 March 1970) is a British comedian, actor and television presenter. He is also known for being one half of double act Armstrong and Miller alongside Ben Miller.
Armstrong was born in Rothbury, Northumberland, the youngest of three children, to Henry Angus Armstrong and his wife Emma Virginia Peronnet Thompson-McCausland, daughter of Lucius Thompson-McCausland. Armstrong was born in Rothbury, Northumberland, the youngest of three children, to Henry Angus Armstrong and his wife Emma Virginia Peronnet Thompson-McCausland, daughter of Lucius Thompson-McCausland. As a child, he developed a passion for music and studied at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh and then Durham School and Trinity College, Cambridge on music scholarships. His musical talent has been showcased in several sketches of The Armstrong and Miller Show. At Cambridge, he read English and was a member of the college choir. He only joined the Footlights in his final year as part of the writing team for the 1992 revue and was Spooks creator David Wolstencroft's comedy partner. As a result, he decided not to pursue a career as a professional bass singer. He also first met Ben Miller during a concert near the campus.
